Bring your grillables and enjoy a day of soaring on an awesome field! I will have a 2M EPP sailplane available for anyone who'd like to fly but doesn't have a glider. For those of you with electric planes, the contest rules allow for up to a 5 minute runtime, which is enough to get just about any old thing up to speck height. This will be my first flight of the season, and I suspect other folks are in the same boat. Be sure and cycle your transmitter/receiver/flight packs in advance, and give your plane a good inspection before putting it up in the air. There will be plenty of opportunities for practice flights before and between rounds, so you can get your thumbs warmed up too. Hope to see you there. With a WHOLE BUNCH of help from Steve McLaughlin yesterday, he and I went and grabbed the lawn mower from Fred's place and hauled it out to Groeschel for the summer. Steve and I also purchased a propane grill to leave at the field for club members to use while out there this summer. Some (yah right) assembly was required! Between the two of us we mangaed to get it assembled... If we had to do it again, I think we'd try to find an RTF grill (ready to fry) next time. Gearhart came out and got a little entertainment from watching Steve and I attempting to put the thing together. He is ready for hot dogs and hamburgers (or steak). So be sure to have a little extra for when he stops by. The grill will be there all summer for any of you to use. Ed Cunningham has offered to pick up a propane tank from my house and fill it up and deliver it to the field in time for the glider contest this Saturday. So the first 'gas fill up' is on Ed. Thanks Ed! We will try to keep it filled and available for everybody. If you happen to notice it getting low on gas, feel free to unhook it and run up to the general store and get it refilled. Hope everybody has a great summer. (FYI - No club funds were used.) Thanks. The Tower Hobbies link above can answer all your questions. Based on some of the current EBay auctions and other hobby store prices, the local (Alaska) bidding will start at $300. We can only accept cash or check for this. No trades. If anybody is interested in purchasing this, please send your offer to Treasurer at AlaskaRC.org. If there are no offers within a week (by Thursday 5/13/10), it will be put on EBay. All proceeds go to ARCS (every little bit helps to keep the club strong and the dues down). Thanks. Well they are both fighting cancers of different types. First Joe Ostrom: about a year and a half ago had prostate cancer. The area of the prostate that was cancerous was too close to the bladder to implant a seed so they had to place a fleck of gold on the spot to have a spot to aim the xray. The treatment was a success but he was not told that one of the side effects of this treatment could be Bladder cancer. We Joe found out about a month ago that he now has stage three bladder cancer and is under going treatment which will continue for a month or so and then after three months they will re-examin him and determine the course of action from that point. Joe is in very good spirits and is more concerned about making his yearly fishing trip to Canada than the cancer, even though the cancer is very serious. Secondly is Charlie Paska: Charlie has been through about all a person could take and is now in a fight for his life against the same brain cancer that took Ted Kennedy. Charlie is very weak and is on chemo (sp) for the rest of his life. He taking the pills for the chemo as well as the heart and all the other aliments he is fighting. I spoke with Charlie this morning and he does not sound like himself. He is getting ready to move back to Montana and will remain there for the remainder of his time. Being too weak to travel back and forth. His prognosis is not good, probably only about 24 or 30 months. That's about it. If you have their emails or phone numbers I am sure they would like to hear from you. All of us that have left Alaska have very fond memories of our days at the ARCS fields and we feel that the ARCS is the best flying club any person could ever be a member of. Take care and have a wonderful flying season. Steven Lingle barisax at olypen.com -------------- next part -------------- An HTML attachment was scrubbed... We need to be able to water the strip when the weather will not. So we are looking for donations to drill a water well at Groeschel's Field. Mike Mosesian has called around and got a good price ($3000) for the well and pump. And so far we have at least 6 people who are committed to splitting the cost of whatever it takes. If you would like to pledge a dollar amount, you can go to PayPal.com and 'send a payment' to treasurer at alaskarc.org. You'll need to add a 'comment/note' with the payment to indicate that you are donating to the "Groeschel Well Project" or something similar. It will be brought up at the next meeting and donations/pledges could also be given then.
