Members required to register with FAA

AMA members are now required by regulation to register their aircraft with
the FAA to avoid federal enforcement and potential penalties. All Radio
Control modelers must register aircraft weighing greater than 0.55 pounds
online no later than February 19, 2016. The registration fee is $5. However,
FAA is offering free registration when registering on or before midnight EST
on January 21. Online registration can be accomplished on the FAA webpage
at, RegisterMyUAS.faa.gov

0f0f9b1f684e> . Several AMA staff members and AMA leaders have been working
with legal counsel and the FAA to find a solution for our members on the
registration rule. To date, FAA has agreed in principle to several proposed
initiatives that will help ease this process for our members in the future.

2016 AMA Expo was another great show

AMA would like to thank everyone who attended or participated in this year's
AMA Expo, held January 8-10 at the Ontario Convention Center, in Ontario,
California. Not only did the event bring many within the hobby together to
learn more about the latest and greatest products available, but attendees
heard presentations by several notable speakers and enjoyed some excellent

New agreement signed with EAA

AMA and the Experimental Aircraft Association

197f846732fb>  (EAA) have signed a memorandum of understanding that expands
the organizations' joint efforts to bring the possibilities of flight to
more people. The agreement, signed January 9 during AMA Expo, builds on the
original memorandum of understanding that the two aviation associations
signed in 2010. These organizations have worked together to help people
discover flying activities and to introduce aviation to the public.

Highlights from the Tucson Aerobatic Shootout now online

Model Aviation writer Mike Hurley recapped the 2015 Tucson Aerobatic
Shootout in the February 2015 edition of the magazine. The Tucson Aerobatic
Shootout is one of the most prestigious model flying competitions that
brings pilots from around the world together to compete for more than
$100,000 in cash and prizes. Congratulations to Andrew Jesky for taking home
first place.

AMA ID labels available in the AMA online store

AMA encourages all members to include pilot information on model aircraft.
For many years, an ID label has been available for this purpose. If you are
looking to add contact information to your models, please consider
purchasing one of these labels. This fuel-proof, adhesive-backed label has
space on the bottom for your name and address. A clear plastic flap protects
the label. Adding one of these stickers on or in your model complies with
the AMA Safety Code requirements for identification and will help recover
the model if it is lost. Each pack includes 10 labels.

Don't miss the NW Model Hobby Expo

If you live in the Pacific Northwest, we encourage you to attend this year's
NW Model Hobby Expo. The show runs January 29-31, 2016, at the Evergreen
Fairgrounds in Monroe, WA. Each year, hobby enthusiasts visit the show for
great deals, to learn more about new products, and to catch up with friends.
Many also fly at the indoor gathering. The show is known as the biggest
hobby swap shop west of the Mississippi.
