[AlaskaRC] New SAM event I want to do - ERLMR

The only kicker is the nearly one pound minimum flying weight. My 1938 Zaic
yearbook is showing a 40" span Wakefield weighing in at 4.5oz. One 45" span
rubber powered model came in at 9oz.

Ballasting these models to be 50% to 250% heavier isn't respecting their
heritage in the same way the arcane battery and wing loading rules attempt
to respect the heritage of the powered old timers.

Still, as you say, everyone is flying with the same equipment. Maybe a 10
minute max will be difficult with the higher wing loading so the event won't
take as long.

Dirk

SAM,

This is in the latest printing of SAM Speaks May - June 2019 (page 26)

Electric Rubber Limited Motor Run! (ERLMR)

Any SAM legal "rubber power" design, scaling permitted. 14 oz. min weight,
ready to fly. Must be powered by Hacker A10-15S outrunner motor and "any" 2
cell lipo.

You get a 1 minute motor run, and try for a 10 minute max flight. Your
score is the best 2 out 3 flight attempts.

What I like is that the exact motor and voltage evens the playing field. If
you want, you can jam a 5000 milliamp 2 cell lipo into it and "let it rip".
There is no wing area to weight ratios, just rubber design model with at
least 14 oz. total weight, easy peasy.

I will bring in the article at our next club meeting.

Mister Ed
