AMA had a meeting with FAA Administrators and Attorneys last week. FAA was surprised to find AMA had objections to FAA reinterpretation of the rules. They have said they would fix some of these after the comment period, but they also said before, that although there was a comment period they intended to make no changes. The FAA has interpreted rules where it serves them and left others vague where it does not. </div>

AMA is self regulated, self insured and constantly changing to keep up with technology and members. Under the FAA rules adopted by congress AMA is a Community Based Organization (CBO) which should be exempt from the FAA's process.</div>
<div class="gmail_quote"><br></div><div class="gmail_quote">AMA is developing it own sUAS (Small Unmanned Aerial Systems) program to educate, certify and make sure that members understand the airspace and their surroundings and to provide a best practices framework for the safety of operators and public alike. The FAA continues to stumble on this one, while the industry and technology are moving down the road at a blinding pace.</div>

AMA would like to thank the thousands of AMA members and aeromodeling enthusiasts who have responded and made comment to FAA's interpretation of the Special Rule for Model Aircraft. To date we've had over 4,500 comments made and we know many more are developing comments and will be submitting them shortly. </font><b style="font-size:13px">Keep in mind the deadline for submitting comments is July 25, 2014.</b><br>
<p style="font-size:13px">
<b>When deciding if the rule will affect you personally and whether or not you should make comment, consider asking yourself the following:</b><br>
<br>
• Are you a modeling enthusiast?<br>
• Do you enjoy flying First Person View?<br>
• Are you a sponsored pilot, fly in competitive events, or enjoy watching companies <br> demonstrate product?<br>
• Do you fly within 5 miles of one of the more than 17,000 airports in the US?<br>
• Does your club manage its own flying site in a safe and responsible manner?<br>
• Do you or your club fly in "controlled airspace"?<br>
• Do you know every rule and regulation pertaining to the National Airspace System?

<p style="font-size:13px">This is a complex issue and many of our members have asked that we provide a simplified explanation, and suggested comments to the Interpretive Rule.
