I know a lot of us have received this directly from the AMA, and
therefore I apologize for the duplication here on this list. However,
the FAA's impending additional regulation of our sport is of concern to
all of us.

Here's the direct link to the AMA's coverage of that issue:

FAA regulations - Blue skies or storms ahead?

It is becoming increasingly apparent that the FAA is going to issue
restrictions on model aircraft through a proposed rule this summer. AMA
has been very hard at work advocating on your behalf. It's time for all
who love model aviation to learn about this serious issue. Go to the
AMA's Government Relations web pages below for background information
and share it with your friends. You can always submit your questions and
concerns to the AMA advocacy team at

AMA to celebrate 75 years all year!

The Academy of Model Aeronautics has been the focal point for all things
in model aircraft since 1936. Born out of the Golden Age of Aviation,
AMA continues to grow and evolve as a multifaceted, highly valuable
support program for aeromodelers nationwide. With a "diamond
anniversary," it's time to celebrate! The link below will take you to
the anniversary website, where you can learn about all kinds of
opportunities for you to join in the celebration.

Expo 2011 hit on all cylinders

The AMA's annual exposition in Ontario CA, held January 7-9 this year,
followed last year's record-breaking success with stage presentations,
seminars and a full house of exhibitors for more than 5,000 attendees.
You'll find those informative expert presentations posted on AMA TV in
the weeks ahead and a trove of photos on the AMA Flickr account by

Deadlines ahead for scholarships, flying site grants

Does your club have big plans for improving your flying site this year?
Your club could qualify for up to $5000! Check out the AMA's Flying Site
Improvement Grant program
here. The deadline for these applications is March 15, with winners
announced by May 1. Know a high school senior who has been an AMA member
for the last three years? He or she may be eligible for a college
scholarship from AMA through the Charles H. Grant Scholarship Program.
AMA has awarded almost $800,000 in scholarships since the 1970s. Click
the link below to learn more about how your young aeromodeler could get
a boost toward that college degree.

Helping youth "get the bug" Civil Air Patrol leader Maj. Gen. Ann
Courter signed a memorandum of agreement with AMA President Dave
Mathewson at EXPO 2011, on January 8. Both organizations will be
exploring ways for the CAP Cadets and AMA youth to benefit from mutually
accessible programs. Click
here to view a terrific video of the Civil Air Patrol and the signing
of the memorandum. AMA is also taking model aviation to primary
education. Go
